Crispy golden tofu tossed in a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy orange sauce — this dish is a takeout favorite made healthier and 100% vegan. Perfect with rice and broccoli for a quick weeknight dinner!
🌿 Ingredients
For the tofu:
- 1 block firm tofu (pressed & cubed)
- 2 Tbsp cornstarch
- 1 Tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 Tbsp olive oil (or sesame oil for extra flavor)
For the orange sauce:
- ½ cup orange juice (freshly squeezed)
- 2 Tbsp soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
- 3 Tbsp maple syrup (or agave)
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
- 1 Tbsp cornstarch + 2 Tbsp water (slurry)
- Chili flakes (optional, for heat)
👩🍳 Instructions
- Prep the tofu
- Drain, press, and cube tofu. Toss with soy sauce and cornstarch until coated.
- Crisp it up
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high. Pan-fry tofu until golden on all sides. Remove and set aside.
- Make the sauce
- In the same skillet, add orange juice, soy sauce, vinegar, maple syrup, garlic, and ginger. Stir and bring to a simmer.
- Thicken the sauce
- Add cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
- Combine
- Add crispy tofu back to the pan, toss to coat well.
- Serve
- Plate with steamed broccoli and fluffy rice. Garnish with sesame seeds or scallions if desired.
🌟 Tips
- Use an air fryer for the tofu for a lighter version.
- Add bell peppers or snap peas for extra crunch.
- Double the sauce (trust me, you’ll want more!).
