🧀 Vegan Halloumi Cheese

🌿 Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened soy milk (or oat milk)
  • ¼ cup nutritional yeast
  • 3 tbsp tapioca starch (for stretchiness)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder

  1. Blend the base
    • In a blender, combine soy milk, nutritional yeast, starches, olive oil, lemon juice, vinegar, and spices until smooth.
  2. Cook into cheese
    • Pour mixture into a saucepan. Stir continuously over medium heat until it thickens into a gooey, stretchy cheese batter.
  3. Shape & Set
    • Transfer into a lightly oiled dish or mold. Smooth the top and let it cool. Chill in the fridge for at least 3 hours until firm.
  4. Slice & Fry
    • Cut into thick slices. Heat a skillet with a little oil and pan-fry each slice until golden-brown and crispy on both sides.
