🍊 Vegan Orange Tofu

Crispy golden tofu tossed in a sweet, tangy, and slightly spicy orange sauce — this dish is a takeout favorite made healthier and 100% vegan. Perfect with rice and broccoli for a quick weeknight dinner!

🌿 Ingredients

For the tofu:

  • 1 block firm tofu (pressed & cubed)
  • 2 Tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 Tbsp olive oil (or sesame oil for extra flavor)

For the orange sauce:

  • ½ cup orange juice (freshly squeezed)
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 3 Tbsp maple syrup (or agave)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 Tbsp cornstarch + 2 Tbsp water (slurry)
  • Chili flakes (optional, for heat)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Prep the tofu
    • Drain, press, and cube tofu. Toss with soy sauce and cornstarch until coated.
  2. Crisp it up
    • Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high. Pan-fry tofu until golden on all sides. Remove and set aside.
  3. Make the sauce
    • In the same skillet, add orange juice, soy sauce, vinegar, maple syrup, garlic, and ginger. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  4. Thicken the sauce
    • Add cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens and becomes glossy.
  5. Combine
    • Add crispy tofu back to the pan, toss to coat well.
  6. Serve
    • Plate with steamed broccoli and fluffy rice. Garnish with sesame seeds or scallions if desired.

🌟 Tips

  • Use an air fryer for the tofu for a lighter version.
  • Add bell peppers or snap peas for extra crunch.
  • Double the sauce (trust me, you’ll want more!).
